| I'd
pursuaded Maggie, my friend, to take a break for a couple of days and stay
with an old school-friend up-state. As a single parent Maggie works real
hard and she deserved her little holiday but it took some major convincing
to get her to go. She left me with a list as long as your arm of things
to switch on and things to switch off and things to water and things not
to water. You get the idea. Really though I guess my main function was
just to keep an eye on Samantha and make sure that she didn't turn her
moms house into a 24-hour party zone. Believe me, its happened before.
Samantha, for her part, was smart enough to spot the hidden agenda but
was surprisingly OK about having her uncle as a 'baby-sitter'. All I wanted
was a quiet time watching the tube, but it didn't turn out like that. On
our first night alone Samantha said she needed to go study with a friend. |
